I turned 28 years old today! I prepped myself yesterday and asked Heavenly Father for help with being a "happy" b-day girl. It's not that I mind getting older- it's that I don't like the pressure of a birthday. I don't want people to feel like they have to do something, I don't want to be disappointed, I don't want to be the center of attention etc... Anyways, my friend Kristin turned 30 last week and she was amazingly gracious, happy, and genuine. I decided I wanted to react like that to my birthdays. The day started off fabulous when 4 cute boys came in my room holding balloons and singing Happy B-day. Then I hear the Beatles "Birthday" song playing from something down stairs. I walk down to see that my hubby had set up a flat screen computer on our kitchen desk! (Watchout blogging world). Then we went out to eat at Crackers. I ordered California Eggs Benedict, which would have been great w/o that slimy sauce SMOTHERED all over it. I ate one of the boys pancakes instead.
I had a great conversation with my Mom-I love her. My friends, Kristin & Natalie, watched Jacob & Tyler for me-Thanks guys! (What would a b-day be w/o the women in our lives???) I met my friend Carolyn at my favorite Pilates class and later I attempted to go out to lunch with Joanne (my mom-in-law) and Annie & Lisa (2 of my sis-in-laws). For good reason, Joanne quoted Murphy's law to me: If something can go wrong it will. Bad food choice #2 when I decided to go to Crackers again for lunch and ordered a very unappetizing Taco salad, that I thought was a southwestern chicken salad. I ate one bite. Before the food got there Joshua was screaming- so I went into the bathroom to nurse him and there were 20 purple hat ladies in line. So, I just discreetly nursed him standing up facing the wall while all of those cute old ladies told nursing stories. (Their friends nursing children 'til they were 5!!!!!) I went back out to the table and he sucked down his cousin's, Eliza Ray, entire bottle and was still unhappy. After about 20 minutes of his loud crying we all though it would be best if I left :) Joshua is such a good baby and I've never had problems with him in restaurants, but Murphy's law was in effect for the b-day lunch.
About an hour later I ate the piece of carrot cake that Joanne brought me. At about 8p.m. we finally went out the door for dinner. After a pancake for breakfast, carrot cake for lunch, and other fun little birthday treats I was in need of some real food I was CERTAIN I would like. We went to In-N-Out for dinner and it was fabulous! While we were at In-N-Out there were 2 chinese men seated next to us that couldn't take their eyes off of our three boys. It made me feel a mix of emotions. I started to feel really sad for them as I could tell they were just soaking in the wonder that kids are and probably wishing they had their own. I was also getting teary eyed thinking how blessed I am. I have a loving husband, adorable kids, great family on all sides, friends who inspire me etc... It's amazing how a good burger can really open your eyes. j/k Later, Tyler got out of bed to come in my room and ask me if I had a good b-day. Then he gave me a big hug and told me he loved me. I got to put a happy, cute little Joshua to bed and kiss a sleeping Jacob. I know this is a lot of rambling and too emotional for a blog, but my journal is filled up- so I plan on printing this out and sticking it in.
Thank you to my amazing family and friends for making me feel loved!
*A tip to the wise- only order your favorite foods on your b-day. Don't try to be daring, just because you're getting older and think adventurous food choices will keep you young :)

I LOVED your bday post! Thanks for letting me be a part of your special day. You're such a Blessing to me and our family every day!! I'm glad your birthday was HAPPY...well, except for the meal fiasco :) You're right, you have soo many blessings, at every turn-and you are a LOVED lady! p.s. Kyler escaped again and ran over to your front door last night. Is it time for a run to home depot for LOCKS? :) I think I've secured my mother of the year trophy, for sure.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY APRIL!! I know what you mean...I just turned 28 last Nov, and I kinda felt the same way you do. I don't like being the center of attention!! I would rather attend to someone else!! lol. Sad that your breakfast and lunch didn't turn out the way you wanted. But I do agree with you. In-N-Out is the way to go. We don't have one here, so when we go someplace that does, were in heaven!! Anyway...amist all the murphy's laws that landed in your lap, you will never forget turning 28 and you will laugh!! Im sure you had a great day just being with the people you love. :0)
hey you cute girl-
enjoy today b/c tomorrow you are only going to be even older. :)
glad you're my *sister*
(and you look like you're about 19)
Happy Birthday April! It sounds like you had quite the day & I'm glad it ended with IN'nOut...you really can't go wrong there with your order!
I'm sad I missed you- but I'll keep trying to call sometime this week. I'm glad you enjoyed your day!
Happy Birthday to a very cute Mom.I've missed you at work out. I think the best thing about birthdays is one day off of feeling guilty. Just getting to do what ever you want all day is good enough for me. And sometimes nothing hits the spot like an In and Out burger!
Happy Birthday April! What a day of celebration. I hope that this coming year is your best one yet. Tell Benjamin hello. We hope to see you all some time soon.
April, Happy Late birthday... What an entry on gratitude, well written and I loved it. There is nothing better than eating and indulging on fine foods for your special day. You deserved nothing but the best! And I know you go all out on every one else's bithday's. I wish I could take away my pride and let my birthday be the center of attention. My little sister Hayley loves her birthday and counts the months down until that fine day, she is 19, not 5. But we all do love to celebrate big with her..
You went out to lunch with little kids! I'm impressed. But it totally turned out how all of my resteraunt outings with kids turn out.
I didn't even know you had a blog! I only read peoples blogs who comment on mine so lucky you=).
Happy Bday! 28 is so not a tragic age.
I am so sorry about the beginning of your birthday day! I am glad that you were still in high hopes till the end and all worked out! Happy Birthday and be grateful that it wasn't 30 yet. It seems like this year has been everyone's 30th birthday. Anyways, I always play it safe with ordering my favorite foods because I ALWAYS go wrong and order the wrong thing when I try something new. I hate that! Hopefully I will see you tomorrow in class!
Happy (late) Birthday! I think I win the award for lame sister-in-law who forgets everyones birthday. Sounds like it was a fabulous day by the time you got to dinner :)
Glad you had a "happy" birthday:) At least you had a decent dinner! FYI Did you know you can print your blogs? I have friends that use their blogs as journals and then print them off...they look like those shutterfly books that my mom does.
